Volkswagen joins ‘200-million club’

4:30 PM

Cumulative production of the Volkswagen Group has reached the 200 million mark, making the German carmaker one of the few in the industry to reach this milestone. This was announced at Volkswagen’s Group Night at the Paris Motorshow last night, with the sportscar concept Volkswagen XL Sport being designated as the 200 millionth Group vehicle.

The group has been able to double the number of vehicles produced within a relatively short period as it was just 15 years ago (in 1999) that it passed the 100 million mark. Its vehicle portfolio today ranges from motorcycles through to supercars and its vehicles are produced at 106 plants in 27 countries.

To commemorate the milestone, Volkswagen made a donation of €200,000 (about RM826,000) to the ‘Cinema for Peace’ Foundation. This charitable organization is committed to peace and human rights throughout the world, mainly through the medium of film, and supports a large number of humanitarian aid projects.
