MCLAREN OFFICIALLY NAMES ITS NEW MODEL THE 500S

4:30 PM

McLaren has created much anticipation for its forthcoming vehicle, internally known as the P13. It is official, the P13 will be known as the 500S. The 500S is being developed as McLaren’s entry level, mass market vehicle, and if they play their cards right, McLaren may start reaping the profits benefits very soon.

The 500S utilizes the same “tub” chassis design as the 650S and will feature a detuned version of the twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 also found in the 650S. It is rumored that the 500S will produce 500 horsepower hence the 500 in its name.

McLaren CEO, Mike Flewitt describes the 500S’ design as “evolutionary” and McLaren design director Frank Stephenson believes “Ferraris must look like Ferraris, and Porsche invariably look like Porsches, but there is no fixed formula for a McLaren.”

McLaren is producing the 500S to go head to head with the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG-GT as well as the ultra fast Porsche 911 Turbo. McLaren is bringing tough competition to the entry-level supercar market and it will be exciting to see what McLaren has in store for the 500S.

Look for the McLaren 500S to make its international debut at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show next March with sales commencing shortly after. It is expected that the 500S will be offered in three configurations, coupe, spider, and a track focused version. Expect pricing to start somewhere in the $180,000 range.
