Work is now well under way on a replacement for the freshly-facelifted E-Class, which is due to get an all-new successor in 2016 built off the same MRA platform as the just-launched W205 C-Class.
And while C-Class bodied test mules have been spotted recently, these images of a fully-camouflaged prototype is our first glimpse of the new E-Class in the wild.
The camo obscures most details and there are decoy bulges and false taillights to disguise the car's true shape, but we can see that the new E-Class will wear an oversized grille much like the S-Class, and sit on a longer wheelbase.
The wheelbase stretch will deliver more interior space, while like the C-Class, the new E-Class will have a cabin design that's heavily influenced by the S-Class. But while it will be bigger than the current model, the MRA (or Mercedes Rear-drive Architecture) will help the next E-Class be lighter, more rigid and more efficienct than before.
