The new Jaguar XE has arrived with the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 in its sights. The new baby Jaguar, known as the Jaguar XE, as been officially launched at a star-studded event in Earls Court, London.
Jaguar's great new hope in the compact executive car class will go on sale after the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October with the first deliveries in May 2015. The new Jaguar XE price range will start at around £27,000.
If any car maker wants to be truly thought of as premium, it’s got to compete against the big boys – and they don’t come any bigger or better than the all-conquering BMW 3 Series, the impressive new Mercedes C-Class or soon-to-be-replaced Audi A4.
That’s the challenge Jaguar has set itself and the new XE has just entered the lion’s den. It’s the result of a total investment of around £2bn in a new factory on Land Rover’s home turf in Solihull, W Mids, to build the mostly aluminium bodyshell and put the car together, and a new engine plant in Wolverhampton producing efficient new Ingenium engines.
The XE has created more than 3,000 new jobs in the UK and will significantly boost Jaguar sales, which in this country at least lag behind Land Rover three to one. So is the new car up to it?
