The Motor Report reported Mercedes have dropped 1.8 liter engine with larger 2.2 liter engine for its diesel segment. In Australia market, all new orders will be delivered with the new engine with the same price.

Mercedes says although it will be a bigger engine, there will be more efficient with optimized belt drive system and vacuum pump, cylinder head package with camshaft roller bearing, optimized aluminum pistons and low friction ring package.

The 2.2 engine will later be introduced to A-Class model.
