Reported by AutoEvolution, Toyota will provide an all wheel driver (AWD) system and two options as an extra in 2016. Customers can choose either current nickel-metal hybrid (Ni-Mh) or all new lithium-ion (Li-on) which has a better power density which will have a better range for the vehicle.

The next generation Prius will be developed on a modular  platform known as Toyota New Global Achitecture (TNGA) which will cut the weight up to 20%. Their aim is to improve Prius's fuel efficiency over 55mpg or 10% compare to the current model.
